PERSONALITY:
"... Souza Samonji, present. Do you too, desire the Symbol of Conquerors in your service?"

Souza's line when you first obtain him sheds light on how jaded he is towards life - how he's used to being owned and kept and passed around from (important) person to person as a possession, rather than as a close 'brother in arms' as other swords would be. He thinks the saniwa will be just one more in the long line of people to have him only for what he is and what he symbolizes, and only very thinly veils his disdain for that, speaking often of what he believes to be the saniwa's motivations for doing anything with him at all.

"I'm aware of it. No matter what becomes of me, you'd have me at hand once you re-temper me, wouldn't you?"
"You want to boast about having me in possession, is that it?"
"You're showing off to your practice opponent, isn't it?"

Yet at the same time, he always finishes these statements with a question. While that might be a chance for the saniwa to deny his accusation - something he would surely disbelieve - it also shows there's still some small sliver of hope left in him for the saniwa to be the one person to care about him, over his status.

"Is it alright? To let a caged bird go outside... Just kidding."
"There is nothing I can do but come back to you."

When sent out on expeditions, his bitterness shows through, covered up in lighthearted tones as always, but there all the same. He longs for freedom and agency of his own, and while going out seems to offer some taste of that - it isn't going into battle, or to PVP or the shops to be shown off - he can't simply run away from the saniwa, much as he might want to, because the saniwa is his current master, and that's not what swords do, that's not what caged birds do, and that's certainly not something Souza can do, because every time he's disappeared, he's been found by someone else who knows what he is, who uses him as he's come to expect.

There is; however, a certain level of trust offered to his brothers that isn't offered to the saniwa or, presumably, anyone else. In the Sword of Imagawa recollection, Kousetsu comments that Souza seems depressed, and instead of coming back with some quip or passive aggressive jibe as one might have come to expect from him, he opens up and comments on the 'what if's he's been thinking about - what if he hadn't been stolen by Nobunaga on the battlefield, what if he hadn't become the "Sword of Conquerors"?

"...I don't know. Whether I would have been happier being a sword of Imagawa to the end."
"So many things have happened... that I don't know anymore..."

His voice shakes as he talks about this, and it shows that he must have had an opinion on the matter once, when the events were closer at hand, that maybe he would have been happier, but that everything that has happened even colored his opinions of his masters before Nobunaga into something less than ideal, changed the 'I was cherished, once' into 'I have always only been a possession to be owned.' The fact that he isn't sure anymore also shows that he's unsure of himself, or what he would do with himself, if he had the freedom he craves so much - what would he do if he wasn't a caged bird? Who would he be? So much has happened that he doesn't know, and doesn't know what he would do with the knowledge if he did know, and can't long for the possibility, because it was so far out of reach, going through the three great unifiers, being burnt and reforged, passed from family to family as a symbol of what his previous masters had done, that letting history be changed - as would happen should the sortie on that particular map fail - would erase who he is forever. But succeeding in preventing the change of the flow of history means damning himself to everything that chipped away at his self-worth and chained him down, making him withdraw into his birdcage and become resentful of everyone who even gives him a second glance. It isn't a position he wants to be in, and isn't a comfortable thing for him to think about.

"Burnt twice, and reforged again after... But there is no next time. Aah... At long last, freedom."

He embraces death readily, because only in death is there freedom from everything that, to his view, causes him pain in the world - his reputation, people desiring him for such, the ordeal of being passed around and possessed, never cared for past status. There's no such pressures in death, and he's relieved to finally find the freedom he's longed for for so long - yet at the same time, he never did go ahead and break himself. There's a resilience there, whether he'll admit it or not, to have gone on for so long, even if he's relieved to finally be able to fly away.

POWERS/ABILITIES: Souza is a tsukomogami - an object that has been bestowed with a soul, and was given a human appearance by the saniwa. Because of this, his true body is actually the sword, and its condition effects the condition of his human form - damage to the weapon will manifest as damage to him. But because of this, he is capable of withstanding more than an ordinary human, so long as the blade is able to be repaired.

He is an uchigatana, which means while he isn't as hard-hitting as larger swords, he is still capable on the battlefield, being quicker and better at scouting than the larger swords. He can also enter an 'Awakened' state after sustaining damage, which significantly boosts his stats to make him a formidable enemy in exchange for lowered defenses.

Very very slight. Souza is slim and relatively tall, but ends up looking taller than he is because of his proportions. His posture isn't the best, and he usually stands with his shoulders curled in. Despite his small frame, he is still a capable swordsman, so he is still mostly lean muscle on a wiry frame.
Residence:
As a Touken Danshi, Souza lives at the citadel he was summoned to by his Saniwa. The citadel itself is a traditional Japanese-style estate, with ample rooms for most, if not all, of the swords to have one of their own, should they choose to, though many elect to share their rooms with those close to them. The grounds are picturesque and expansive, with a mountain backdrop, fields, a stream... and they have a little farm, complete with horse stables. The citadel also exists in an ambiguous time - it, and a nearby town, look to be from the Bakumatsu era or earlier, but the shop stocks all manner of modern and electronic gadgets, implying that in the year 2205 when the series takes place, Japan has either had a revival of old aesthetics, or that it exists outside of time itself.

Drinking?
Souza will very, very rarely pass up a chance to drink when it's offered, and will even less often pass up the chance to drink heavily. With a past - and companions - like his, who could really blame him? He's not a sloppy drunk, with the only real indication being a slight flush across his cheeks, a darker expression, and once inebriated enough, an unsteadiness to his steps. He does get more stubborn and petulant when drunk, though perhaps that is simply the lowered inhibitions manifesting usual impulses.

Despite his slim frame, he is still somehow able to hold his liquor very, very well, frequently drinking his unwitting companions right under the table and still appearing to be completely fine.
Smoking?
Occasionally, if offered. More likely to smoke from a kiseru than a cigarette, not (only) for aesthetic reasons, but because it keeps the embers further away from him.
Other daily habits:
Pining wistfully for the day he may someday break and die and be free of this world. No, really. He'll make overwrought analogies about himself being a caged bird, he'll snark at his saniwa about how they're only keeping him for his status just like the others, and if he's sent out to a battle? He'll be terribly reckless.
Hair:
Very asymmetrical and very pink, with an ombre towards the ends. It's usually tied up and swept off to one side, with small elaborate braids throughout and with a fringe over his blue eye. It has a tendency to be curly or wavy, too, which manifests as choppy flippy bits everywhere when it's tied up.
Clothes:
Typically very traditional and very pastel, with varying levels of formality ranging from please wear your clothes correctly to you're one bandanna away from a housewife. Whatever he's wearing probably has at least one too many layers and with a neckline open way too deeply, even if he's coerced into more western-styled things.
Scent:
Steel is the predominant smell on him, but also the faint lingering scent of blood, though that's mostly covered up by fire and soot and, sometimes, the scent of cherry blossoms over anything else.
Other notable physical details:
Souza has blue-green heterochromia, and the sort of insincere smile that very rarely reaches his eyes.

Voice:
He has a light, airy sort of voice, that edges to be rather high and breathy, with a tendency to trail off at random points, but usually at the ends of sentences, if he doesn't end them in a question.

THE DIRTY(ISH) SECTION

Penis size:
6.75" erect. While it is slightly longer than average, it's also slightly thinner than average, ending up looking proportional to his wiry frame.
Body Hair & Grooming:
Naturally very little. As a spirit, his physical appearance is in a sort of stasis that means body hair doesn't really grow, so there's no need for maintenance - if he could even grow facial hair in the first place. Pubic hair is not nonexistent, but there's little enough that it looks decently maintained, even though he doesn't bother.
Size preference:
There's very little preference at all in regards to his partner's size, though in regards to men (i.e. people appearing to be uchis or larger swords), he does have a very slight preference for those significantly larger than himself in some way - whether that's in height, musculature, or both. Ultimately, he doesn't give much thought to size in the long run.
Sexual preference:
"If you want..." Souza has no preference between men and women, and will easily cave if they express interest in him (whether that's good or not is up to debate).

Ambiguous, depending on who he's being played against, but probably just a good night with either Mutsu or Kousetsu.

Watching former masters do the do. Likely compounded by the fact that he probably wasn't the only sword in the room at the time.

Personality:
"... Souza Samonji, present. Do you too, desire the Symbol of Conquerors in your service?"

Souza's line when you first obtain him sheds light on how jaded he is towards life - how he's used to being owned and kept and passed around from (important) person to person as a possession, rather than as a close 'brother in arms' as other swords would be. He thinks the saniwa will be just one more in the long line of people to have him only for what he is and what he symbolizes, and only very thinly veils his disdain for that, speaking often of what he believes to be the saniwa's motivations for doing anything with him at all.

"I'm aware of it. No matter what becomes of me, you'd have me at hand once you re-temper me, wouldn't you?"
"You want to boast about having me in possession, is that it?"
"You're showing off to your practice opponent, isn't it?"

Yet at the same time, he always finishes these statements with a question. While that might be a chance for the saniwa to deny his accusation - something he would surely disbelieve - it also shows there's still some small sliver of hope left in him for the saniwa to be the one person to care about him, over his status.

"Is it alright? To let a caged bird go outside... Just kidding."
"There is nothing I can do but come back to you."

When sent out on expeditions, his bitterness shows through, covered up in lighthearted tones as always, but there all the same. He longs for freedom and agency of his own, and while going out seems to offer some taste of that - it isn't going into battle, or to PVP or the shops to be shown off - he can't simply run away from the saniwa, much as he might want to, because the saniwa is his current master, and that's not what swords do, that's not what caged birds do, and that's certainly not something Souza can do, because every time he's disappeared, he's been found by someone else who knows what he is, who uses him as he's come to expect.

There is; however, a certain level of trust offered to his brothers that isn't offered to the saniwa or, presumably, anyone else. In the Sword of Imagawa recollection, Kousetsu comments that Souza seems depressed, and instead of coming back with some quip or passive aggressive jibe as one might have come to expect from him, he opens up and comments on the 'what if's he's been thinking about - what if he hadn't been stolen by Nobunaga on the battlefield, what if he hadn't become the "Sword of Conquerors"?

"...I don't know. Whether I would have been happier being a sword of Imagawa to the end."
"So many things have happened... that I don't know anymore..."

His voice shakes as he talks about this, and it shows that he must have had an opinion on the matter once, when the events were closer at hand, that maybe he would have been happier, but that everything that has happened even colored his opinions of his masters before Nobunaga into something less than ideal, changed the 'I was cherished, once' into 'I have always only been a possession to be owned.' The fact that he isn't sure anymore also shows that he's unsure of himself, or what he would do with himself, if he had the freedom he craves so much - what would he do if he wasn't a caged bird? Who would he be? So much has happened that he doesn't know, and doesn't know what he would do with the knowledge if he did know, and can't long for the possibility, because it was so far out of reach, going through the three great unifiers, being burnt and reforged, passed from family to family as a symbol of what his previous masters had done, that letting history be changed - as would happen should the sortie on that particular map fail - would erase who he is forever. But succeeding in preventing the change of the flow of history means damning himself to everything that chipped away at his self-worth and chained him down, making him withdraw into his birdcage and become resentful of everyone who even gives him a second glance. It isn't a position he wants to be in, and isn't a comfortable thing for him to think about.

"Burnt twice, and reforged again after... But there is no next time. Aah... At long last, freedom."

He embraces death readily, because only in death is there freedom from everything that, to his view, causes him pain in the world - his reputation, people desiring him for such, the ordeal of being passed around and possessed, never cared for past status. There's no such pressures in death, and he's relieved to finally find the freedom he's longed for for so long - yet at the same time, he never did go ahead and break himself. There's a resilience there, whether he'll admit it or not, to have gone on for so long, even if he's relieved to finally be able to fly away.

Abilities and Nerfs: Souza is a tsukomogami - an object that has been bestowed with a soul, and was given a human appearance by the saniwa. Because of this, his true body is actually the sword, and its condition effects the condition of his human form - damage to the weapon will manifest as damage to him. But because of this, he is capable of withstanding more than an ordinary human, so long as the blade is able to be repaired.

He is an uchigatana, which means while he isn't as hard-hitting as larger swords, he is still capable on the battlefield, being quicker and better at scouting than the larger swords. He can also enter an 'Awakened' state after sustaining damage, which significantly boosts his stats to make him a formidable enemy in exchange for lowered defenses.

As for nerfs - I don't really think they're necessary in his case, but if you do, mods, please let me know and I'm more than happy to oblige.

Inventory: Aside from the clothes he's wearing, all he'd have is his sword.

PERSONALITY: Souza is, primarily, very jaded. He's jaded towards life, having been through many, many horrible things, and he's jaded towards other people, because at times the kindest-seeming people have proven to be the worst, and the strangest have proven to be the best, so it's safer and easier to keep everyone at an arm's length at least. He's also grown used to being a possession, and assumes that most interact with him to that end, so he is highly suspicious of anyone's motivations, though he'll hide his disdain for others under a pleasant smile and carefully chosen words. Still, it shows through from time to time, in passive aggressive commentary.

He doesn't believe anyone could - or would - genuinely care about him as a person, anymore, and doesn't want to let himself believe in the possibility for that, but the hope is still there, buried deep down inside. He'll cover up the hopes in odd questions from time to time, and cutting remarks, but anyone who knows him for very long and who does actually care somewhat, would probably be able to take notice of the insecurity it stems from.

Somewhat paradoxically, for someone who is willingly in his line of work, he longs for freedom, and thinks of himself akin to a caged bird. But, while he wants it, he doesn't believe he deserves freedom, and is accustomed to being owned, so he allows that pattern to continue. If he were to actually find himself free of everything, with the means to take care of himself, he wouldn't know what to do with himself anyway, which is something he is all too aware of, so he doesn't bother trying to build up the self-esteem needed to strike out on his own. He also doesn't trust the world in general, believing that if he turned his back on a relatively okay situation, he'd only be forced into something worse against his will.

Death - and dying - is something he thinks about often and, in a way, is another sort of freedom that he longs for. He would embrace death readily, because only in death is there freedom from everything that, to his view, causes him pain in the world - the desires of people, his reputation for passive acceptance, the ordeal of being passed around and possessed, never cared for past what he can do for whoever has him for the moment. MOTIVATION: Very little motivates Souza, and his motivations tend to shift on a day to day basis. He wants to die, but he doesn't want to commit suicide, so he has a tendency to do dangerous things - like sharing the secrets of dangerous people with their enemies, when the chance allows for it. But he's also endeared to the establishment he lives and works at, whether he'll admit it or not, so he does genuinely wish to see it do well, and will look after the other employees when they're hurt or need a shoulder to lean on.

Souza Samonji was born as the second son to an esteemed blacksmith of considerable skill in Kingsgrave. As a reward for many years of faithful service arming the men serving house Manwoody, Souza's father was allowed to send him to be betrothed to the third daughter of a branch of the house, to live with her family in their estate, and to learn the ways of being a very minor lord. A nominal reward, but one that brought some esteem to the family nonetheless, so at the age of six, he moved to her father's house and began his courtly studies.

Two years later, the War of Thorns began and hit their house - being in a border town - almost immediately. They fought valiantly, as any true, red-blooded Dornishmen would, but eventually fell as many more would after them. The men were killed. The women, children, and boys under fifteen taken captive, Souza among them. The captives were turned over to the men for purposes of psychological warfare, and at this point Souza couldn't know if the psychological warfare tactics worked on the general populace, only that he wished he'd been old enough, or brave enough to take up a sword with the men in the fight. Perhaps then he might have died and been spared.

Instead, as a captive, he was used as an outlet for the frustrations of the men, and quickly gained a lasting reputation for not fighting back or protesting to any atrocities levied on him. His reputation got the attention of the future Lord Graves, and he was taken and trained as property, for the majority of the duration of the war. In the final year of the war, he was passed between several other high-ranking officials, until he was finally thrown out on the streets of King's Landing when his current master returned home - it was too inconvenient having someone like him around, but it was equally troublesome finding somewhere to place him, so he was left to his own devices. After all, who would care if a broken, Dornish, prisoner of war died in the streets?

No one would care, which was the sole motivation for Souza to scrape by from day to day. He wouldn't have cared if he died, but it was too pathetic, even for someone whose pride had been beaten down and nearly stamped out, to simply lie down and give up in an alleyway somewhere. So he didn't. He was already thoroughly familiar with the desires of men, so it was a simple matter to start selling himself for enough coin to occasionally buy himself a decent meal. A bed came more infrequently - usually only when someone encouraged him to stay the night - but he minded that less when his work usually took place at night and during the day very few people paid mind to someone resting idly on a bench or on the side of the road. Occasionally, he would find himself an honest job or two, usually only for the duration of an afternoon or a few days at most, filling in for an absent worker in a merchant's stall or an errant barmaid, but those were infrequent at best. From time to time he also resorted to stealing scraps out of desperation, but he learned quickly that a quick favor or two for the peddler of whatever necessity was at stake was a far simpler and easier method of getting what he needed.

Like this, he managed to scrape by for twelve years until he encountered an up and coming brothel owner who was in need of employees to fill his rooms. The offer was irresistible, the temptation of food and water, of bathing daily if he so chose to, of a comfortable bed, of - most importantly - protection was something he accepted in a heartbeat and promptly moved into Irogenia and began working that night. He's been there ever since, and has watched the establishment grow and earn a highly-respected reputation (or as highly-respected a reputation one can earn, as an establishment on the Street of Silk).

Working in a brothel is different than working on the streets, but he's found that the politics inside the walls are not dissimilar from those he'd noticed at court in his youth, and in the tents of officials in his tenure as a prisoner. The clientele were those who could afford the luxury of a brothel, and were thus easily flattered, and light conversation netted Souza with more delicate information than he could have ever anticipated. Information which he both filters to his employer, and which he freely sells for the right price, rather indiscriminately. Politics interest him little, so he has little need to protect the reputation of anyone who wishes him to not spill their secrets, and the incentive to keep them secret must outweigh the reward for telling anyone who might idly inquire about things he may or may not know.
